He spent a day in wheelchair
KAYA FM presenter Mo G got the fright of his life when he took part in the Challenge the Challenged race in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni on Saturday. His legs were tied as he competed in the wheelchair racing event. He said: “It was quite an experience. For a moment I struggled to move the wheelchair. I’m glad I took part in the race and now I can share my experience on what it’s like to be in a wheelchair. “The event taught me a valuable lesson. We should support the work of Skhumba Hlophe, who has been working hard to donate wheelchairs to organisations in and around Gauteng.” Thami Mankenkeza, founder and chairman of the Wheels of Change organisation, said the race went well. He believes it has taught people the importance of having wheelchair friendly environments. “We have managed to touch hearts and souls and make people living with disabilities feel special.” He said their organisation has created a database of people living with disabilities. “We have proposed that an old creche next to the Polyclinic be used as a centre. We hope the government will help us build a centre for people living with disabilities in Vosloorus. “We hope our project will spread to other townships. We want people living with disabilities to keep active and not sit at home doing nothing. “This will give them an opportunity to further their studies and gain skills.”
